Update on Bethany- she is doing ok! We saw the pediatrician this morning. Her oxygen levels are still off but not alarming. Her breathing is also too fast but again, not alarming like it was before and she's not wheezing. We can keep doing what we are doing here at home with the suction machine. He told me to only breastfeed (we had started solids and a cup awhile back) because that is most important for her right now. She lost 4oz since Saturday and the doctor said it's not uncommon for them to lose 10-15% of their body weight from this illness. Infants and RSV just don't mix!
The good news is that she isn't completely miserable because she will play for short periods of time on the floor. She has started scooting towards things she wants! She really likes one of Wyatt's new trucks and tries to get to it. Maybe she'll grow up playing trucks with her brother like I did. Although sometimes Dan allowed me to work my barbies into the truck/lincoln log play.

The past few days have been very tough for us. Bethany was in the hospital for RSV and bronchiolitus and some of the breathing things that they had to do to her were horribly painful for her. Hard for a mom to hold down her little baby girl while someone does something painful to her but it had to be done. Neither of us slept for a couple days while we were there so we are glad to be home now and we hope that we are home for good. Our insurance company actually bought us a home suction machine to use which works a little better than a regular bulb suction thing.
Please keep Bethany in your prayers, as the bronchiolitus may keep her sick for quite some time and she will be more prone to asthma even though we have no family history of it. So sad! Her weight was only 15 pounds and I suspect it's gone down some more. She’s just not herself right now. Wyatt and I got sick as well but we are on the road to recovery. Josh has been taking care of all of us. Bethany sees the pediatrician again tomorrow and he will decide if Bethany needs to be re-admitted or not.
This sickness has sorta overshadowed our Christmas but we did have a good Christmas day. Wyatt has had lots of fun playing with new toys and I will post Christmas pictures in a few days. My best friend Danielle is home from Germany and I’m so disappointed that we weren’t able to visit her or my family and friends but God does everything for a reason and we trust him. I’ll update more on Bethany after our doctor visit tomorrow.
Comments:Vicky: I'm so sorry to hear about poor Bethany = (( I know how sick and for how long I was sick with RSV...started the 3rd week of November and I'm still not completely over it...almost though...
We will certainly be praying for our little sweety and also for you and Josh as you care for her and miss out on sleep. Also for Wyatt that he stays healthy and well-behaved.
I'll be looking for your updates!Add a comment:

Our baby girl is half a year old today. Can you believe it? I can't get over how beautiful she is and it's looking like she is going to be really funny like Wyatt. She made up a game when she is eating where she will take a few sips and then pull back, look at me, and crack up laughing. Then she repeats it over and over. She has changed so much from her newborn days! I can't wait to see what changes are in store for the 2nd half of her first year.
And Wyatt, gosh I didn't realize it at the time but he was just a baby himself when she was born! There is a HUGE difference in a 16 month old and the 22 month old that he is now. Some babies aren't even walking at 16 months! We thought he would have a hard time getting used to sharing me but he has really surprised us by being wonderful about it. He tries to play with her and is always concerned when she is upset. Sometimes when she cries he keeps bringing her toys and giving her hugs and kisses. These two will have lots of fun growing up together.
Merry Christmas, everyone!Comments:Nanny: These two beauties reflect the love and joy they see in their parents. You two work wonderfully together and God will bless you greatly as they grow together.Vicky: What a blessing from God your kids are!! Thanks for being a good mommy to them so that one day they will contribute greatly to bettering our society!
We pray for you faithfully as you and Josh tackle this rewarding but tough job = )Add a comment:

Bethany was up at the crack of dawn and it's a long story but I eventually ended up in Wyatt's bed with him. We both went back to sleep but for him it wasn't for long. I decided to keep sleeping while he played in his room...
How to wake up Mommy. By Wyatt Himan
- Fill bed with toys
- Play with talking book that somehow got turned up to the loudest volume (why do they make the noises so LOUD on toys?)
- Transfer Mega and Lego blocks from one contained to another. One at a time. By throwing each as hard as you can
- Look out window and shout at no one
- Rip covers off of mommy
- Pull mommy's hair
- Sit on mommy's face and then bounce up and down
And the thing that finally made me get up... Kiss all over mommy's face while saying "mmmmm"Comments:Nanny: This is so cute, and makes me feel like I'm right there. it reminds me of Ben and Josh when they were little, but they would just bang each other on the head!Add a comment:

After 2 months of trying my hardest to get Bethany to take a bottle, I gave up and tried a Nuby gripper cup and sure enough- she chugged that milk down! So now I pump once a day and give her that feeding from a cup. I don’t want to wean her yet but this frees me up more. And hey, now I don’t have to speed grocery shop anymore! She's been saying "GA GA DA BA BA DA" a lot too.
Wyatt's current favorite thing to do is color and we must spend 2 hours a day on art projects. He just got a haircut yesterday and looks cute as can be.Comments:Nanny: Shows kids are so different. At this age, and still,Gavin is into his trucks and firestuff. Tell Wyatt I still don't have my picture for my fridge! Glad to see Bethany drinks from that cup..when you're away I'd have problems if she wasn't!Add a comment:

1. Bethany sounds like a pterodactyl when she talks. She loves the toys on the exersaucer. Mainly just putting each toy in her mouth. She puts everything in her mouth. If your face gets too close to hers you will see an open mouth coming at you and she will try to eat your face. It’s fun to watch her play and interact with the world. I love this age. She’s very fun and I don’t have to chase her around yet.
2. We put our tree up and while I've trained Wyatt pretty well to not take things off of the tree, he puts things ON the tree. Random objects he collects from around the house like his shoe, sippy cup, socks, books, toys, and my missing chapstick. In Wyatt’s world a reindeer is called a horsy and our Christmas tree is called a flower.
3. We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
Comments:Nanny: They sound like so much fun. It must be cute to watch Wyatt add to the tree...you must video some of this. I can't wait to watch them in the spring.Add a comment:

Funny story that Wyatt will someday be mad at me for telling- A few nights ago I walked into his room after naptime and he was naked as a jaybird! Had taken his clothes and his diaper off and thrown them overboard. He was pointing to something and saying “ewww” and I looked and saw a turd in the crib. There were also a dozen pee spots. I imagine that he was running around in the crib while peeing. I couldn’t help but crack up laughing and I’m sure I will tell this story to his girlfriends someday. So looks like it’s back to safety-pinning his sleepers on so he can’t unzip them. I read in a Parents Magazine about duct-taping diapers on kids who take them off and I hope it doesn’t come to that!
Wyatt has slept in his big boy bed the past 2 nights and it’s going well. Oh and he finally has more teeth! After having 6 teeth forever and ever, he popped two more out. That is a relief because if they didn’t come out by his birthday, we were going to have to take him to a pediatric dentist. Phew!
Bethany is starting to contently play for longer periods at a time. She will sometimes play in the excersaucer or on a blanket for 20 minutes at a time which is great progress for her. And it’s just enough time for mommy to get more things done. She’s working on being able to sit without toppling over so quickly. She loves being able to see the world from the sitting position. I’m still on the allergy diet and she’s still doing great, although I miss cheese greatly. I keep thinking of all the cheesy things I am going to eat when she is weaned someday. I thought we wouldn’t be starting solids until 6 months but she was showing signs of being ready already so I went ahead and started them this week. Just a teaspoon every evening for the past few days to get her used to it. She had sweet potatoes as her first food. Didn’t like them the first day but has liked them since. Squash is next!

For the past 6 months, I have been on a desperate search for an identical "Bear Blankie" to the one Josh's mom gave Wyatt when he was born. Him and Bear Blankie are like glue. Bear Blankie is with us for story time before bed and watches Thomas the Train with us as well. There have been nights I've spent an hour searching for Bear Blankie so that Wyatt can fall asleep. Or times when Wyatt's been sick and thrown up on Bear Blankie and we have to wait for him to wash and dry before Wyatt can go back to sleep. Some nights I hear Wyatt crying really loud at night and that is not like him so I immediately know that Bear Blankie probably fell out of the crib and I put him back in Wyatt's arms and he's quickly asleep again. And every morning Wyatt asks me to kiss Bear Blankie first thing.
There are lots of blue bear blankies in the world but it HAD to be identical to Bear Blankie or Wyatt would never fall for it. If we ever lost Bear Blankie it would no doubt be traumatic for Wyatt.
Well finally I found one on Ebay!!!! After 6 months!!!!!! I paid $25 for it and I'm sure it wasn't sold for that but it was worth every penny. I have searched every store and at least once a week I search on ebay. So now we finally have a spare Bear Blankie! And now I will always have my own to keep for me and snuggle up to when he goes away to summer camp and I miss him or on nights when I miss my baby Wyatt who is all grown up. I just wanted to share my excitement!Comments:Auntie Tiff: That's why I got 2 hippos, so I'd have one when Kassidy goes to school. That plan was busted when she got ahold of both, and now demands both at the same time. Keep the twin in a safe, secure place so you'll be sure to avoid this!!
I'm happy you found him though. I know how hard you have been searching!!Nanny: Next time I will have to buy 2 blankies so you won't have this problem. It is sweet that he is so attached!Add a comment:

The kids are doing great! Now that the dairy has cleared from our bodies, Bethany is back to being happy and content most of the time and her diapers have tested negative for blood to back that up. I don’t think I’ve ever prayed so hard about something in my life and what an answer to prayers! Last night she slept for 11 hours. She spends lots more time playing now but still prefers to be held and we gladly oblige. (Well, sometimes it's not gladly.) About a week ago she started rolling over from back to front so now she can roll both ways. Maybe she’ll start rolling like a log across the floor soon. Good thing the house is already baby-proofed. She likes to stick her tongue out and blow spit bubbles so we’re now onto the phase of her life where she has to wear bibs 24/7 to keep her shirt dry. Which is a shame because then you can see the adorable outfits she wears.
Wyatt is still a very busy boy. It is so cute how he says the word flower. He says it perfectly and doesn’t leave the L out like I would have thought he’d do. We visited Josh’s family in NY for Halloween and Wyatt had a blast with his cousin Gavin. They went trick or treating together and played in Gavin’s playroom a lot. Gavin let Wyatt drive his tractor and when I get time I will post video of this. Wyatt was very well-behaved on the trip, although quite shy. I thought for sure we’d have to block-off their stairs but after the first time I told him no, he didn’t go up them. I could tell that he really wanted to though. It was great for him to put faces and names together so that now when we sit at the computer and look at pictures of Josh’s family, he can be excited to see familiar faces.
I posted pictures up to trick or treat night. I have tons more pictures to post of our trip to NY but probably won’t have time to upload them for a couple more days. We’ve been very busy. We finished our Christmas shopping for the kids last night and that is a relief. Now we can relax and enjoy the holidays more. I am very excited about a 25th Anniversary Cabbage Patch kid that we got for Bethany. It has brown hair and blue eyes like her and I’m going to put her newborn patriotic “Bethany” outfit that she outgrew on it. Thanks for reading. I have so many fun pictures to post when I get more time but ever since we got home from the trip I haven’t had many free moments yet.
Comments:Pony (Vicky): Thanks for writing!! I love hearing about the kids and all about your lives.
I watch Animal Cops and they've been doing commercials for a K-9 cop show that's new. I'll be praying for Josh and Toro when I see the commercials!Add a comment:

I could write a book filled with Wyatt's daily adventures. His latest adventure resulted in some beautiful crayon art on his closet door. We were coloring, he moved onto a different activity, I forgot to put the crayons out of reach and just when I was finishing up Bethany's feeding I realized that Wyatt was way too quiet. Found him in his room coloring on the door. I posted a picture of the artwork for all to enjoy. I also have to safety pin the zipper of his pajamas up before bed because he enjoys unzipping it and taking it off at night which is no good when our heat is set low at night. His vocabulary is starting to pick up really fast. Getting him dressed has become a wrestling match. He likes to make Bethany laugh and he pets her hair nicely. He enjoys sitting in my lap and looking at pictures of our family members and horses on the laptop. He calls out names and is really excited each time a familiar face comes up. When he sees pictures of me he doesn't say "mama" or get excited though. Bummer!
Poor Bethany has not been well. She screams almost the entire day and nothing we do can comfort her. Sometimes all we can do is hold her while she's crying and be with her when she hurts. Thankfully, the doctor was able to get us in on Thursday. Her eyes were really puffy and her diaper tested positive for blood so I'm back to not eating dairy. I had added it back in awhile ago and she seemed fine and her diapers were testing ok so I increased the amount of dairy last week and now this happened. She has an intolerance to that plus a few other things and it causes her tummy and intestines to be very irritated. The pediatrician that we see went through this exact thing with her kids too and has been extremely helpful with giving me loads of allergy information and websites. She gave me my own kits to test the diapers so that I don't have to keep coming back in. I test a diaper tomorrow and hopefully the elimination of dairy again will make Bethany well again. Since her diapers tested fine for a month, I'm optimistic that they will again. Other than the digestive woes, Bethany is doing great. She is staying in her percentile curves so she's growing well. She can reach for toys and put them in her mouth. She can also sit up for a longer time before falling over.
I added mostly cell phone pictures this time because we were out of camera batteries and were holding out for our Sams Club trip yesterday to buy more.Comments:Mommy: Bethany is doing MUCH better after the dairy cleared from Mommy's body. She's a joy! Most of the time ;)Nanny: I'm not sure what to believe, cuz Josh and Missy just visited us and we though Bethany was an angel. She cried, but not all day, and seemed to laugh and cuddle alot. I wonder if it had to do with the fact that someone was holding her and walking with her all the time!Dad: At least she is just crying during the day and not at night. That would be exhausting. I remember a little girl years ago that cried that way. It had nothing to do with dairy.Add a comment:
