Here are what the kids are up to lately (there''s a lot so grab a cup of tea!)-
Wyatt is obsessed with the concept of “hot”. He tells me everything that is hot. Candles, the stove, my coffee mug, and even my potholders and oven-mitts! He’s starting saying letters when he sees them but he doesn’t get them correct yet. He mostly says they are “C, S, T, E”. I wasn’t going to start teaching him letters until he was closer to 3 years old but I think I will start now since he is interested in them. He also “counts” and every number is “3, 3, 3” for now. He wants to do everything himself which often leads to breakdowns for him when things aren’t going as he wanted them to go! We’re trying to teach him about whispering when we say “shh” and he imitates us and puts his finger on his lips and says “shhhh”. But it’s so cute when he does it because he totally smashes his nose flat with his finger while doing it! While we’re eating dinner he closes his eyes and pretends to pray. I think it’s because we pray to thank God before we eat and Wyatt thinks the prayer should continue during eating time as well. I don’t know. But again, it’s cute!
I’ve never told him to do this but he says “thank you!” every time you hand him something and also every time he hands YOU something. He’s saying short phrases now and talking up a storm. He FINALLY got some more teeth in! He had only 6 teeth until a few months ago! Now he has most of them in- they came all at once and it was not fun for anyone. He is going through a phase now where he wants to eat whatever Bethany is eating. So sometimes I give him a jar of whatever she’s eating and would you believe that that boy scarfs down pureed veggies? I’m just happy that he’s eating an additional veggie serving and I don’t care if comes from a baby food jar! I wonder how long this will last.
We had his 2 year check-up bright and early this morning and all is well. He’s a little on the small side for his age but that is not surprising since he came from me. He’s 27 pounds even and is 33.5 inches tall. He got one shot today to get caught up on a vaccine that they had a shortage on last year and I’m hoping that he has out-grown getting sick after shots.
I can''t get over how pretty Bethany is. Her eyes are such a pretty blue color and her hair is wavy. It’s started to get tangled now so we need to use detangler when we brush it. She doesn’t like having her hair brushed one bit. She still rolls like a log across the floor to get to things. She dances when she hears music. Her personality is so much different from Wyatt’s. Maybe it’s a girl thing. She is much more quiet. She babbles but it’s soft babbling usually, with the occasional pterodactyl screeches thrown in for fun. My personal favorite is when she talks in her gremlin voice. You just don’t expect a gremlin voice to come from a tiny little pretty baby! She is all smiles and giggles and to see her now you''d never believe that she cried and screamed constantly as a young baby. Her favorite food is Baby Mum Mum rice disks and I think she would eat them 24/7 if I let her. She still dislikes fruit so I borrowed my mom’s food processor and am going to see if making my own fresh purees makes a difference or not. She loves veggies, especially sweet potatoes and green beans. She’s not as into solid foods as Wyatt was at this age but we''re going at her pace.
When I remember her baby days my favorite memory will be how I rocked her to sleep while nursing her. That is our most special time together in that rocking chair at night. Just me and sweet baby Bethany. I get her almost to sleep and then I lay her down in the crib and it only takes her a couple minutes to fall all the way to sleep. It is most successful if she doesn’t see me leave so sometimes I duck down low and army-crawl out of her room! She is so precious. Both of the kids are! These baby days are hard while we’re in the thick of it but they go by so fast and will soon be just a memory. I’m in the process of printing out all of my entries and your comments and guestbook entries so that the kids can read all about their baby days someday.
